Making a Difference
EXIT at Berliner Tafel
30/06/2025
When Escape Room Meets Community Service
Usually, we build tension. This time, we broke it down – crate by crate.
Our EXIT team stepped out of the room and into a different kind of adventure: a team volunteering day at Berliner Tafel.
A few months ago, we asked our newsletter readers where they’d like to see the EXIT team doing good –– and voilà, here we were. Out of the escape room, into real life. And real life was calling – with forklift trucks, bread baskets, and a whole lot of purpose.

The mission: Save food. Help people.
Early in the morning, the seven of us gathered in the massive warehouse of Berliner Tafel in Beusselstraße – surrounded by crates, pallets and boxes.
There were no riddles to solve this time – instead, it was: organise, sort, deliver. We reorganised shelves in the dry goods section (a meditative puzzle job – only with 15 kg cartons).
We packed freshly donated bread from Butter Lindner. Every slice handled with care.
We prepared deliveries for an emergency shelter in Storkower Straße – checking expiry dates, labelling boxes, loading goods.
And in the middle of it all: a real sense of community.
We already knew how much food the Tafel rescues every week.
But to see it. To touch it. To carry it – that hits differently.

Volunteering as a team event? 100% yes.
What surprised us most was how quickly purpose shows up when you work for others. Escape rooms thrive on teamwork. So does volunteering. Only difference? There are no points to collect here – just real human impact.
Between coffee breaks and pallet jacks, we laughed, lifted, and asked: “Why don’t we do this more often?”
We will do it again – bigger, louder, bolder
The answer came quickly: We’ll be back.
This November, EXIT will return to Berliner Tafel – with more people, more helping hands, more drive to make a difference.
And our 2025 Christmas donation campaign? That’s going to Berliner Tafel, too. Because social commitment doesn’t follow a season – but in winter, it matters even more.

Staying responsible – even after work
You could say: “Well, we’ve got jobs to do.”
Sure. But once you see what poverty in Berlin looks like up close, you don’t go back unchanged.
Sometimes, you take away sore arms. More often, it’s gratitude. Always, it’s insight.

Why does EXIT do this?
Because we believe you shouldn’t only break out of rooms, but sometimes out of your own comfort zone. Because we’re a business in Berlin, and Berlin is more than buzz, burgers, and being busy. Because we believe that doing good feels good.
